Zubeen Garg Death Probe: Gaurav Gogoi Alleges Assam CM’s “Suspicious Role

Political Storm Over Zubeen Garg’s Death: Gaurav Gogoi Questions Assam CM’s Role in Probe

Guwahati, September 29: The political controversy surrounding the death of Assam’s iconic singer Zubeen Garg deepened on Monday, with Assam Congress President Gaurav Gogoi launching a scathing attack on the state government and Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

Addressing the media, Gogoi alleged that the Chief Minister’s role in the ongoing probe appeared “highly suspicious,” citing gaps in the investigation by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) and the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).

“The role of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma is highly suspicious. From the very beginning of the case, we still don’t know where his manager was, or where his chief event organiser was. These two people have crucial details about Zubeen’s final hours, yet police are questioning others instead,” Gogoi said.

His remarks come amid growing demands for transparency and accountability, as questions continue to swirl around the circumstances of the beloved singer’s sudden demise.

Earlier, Zubeen’s wife, Garima Saikia Garg, filed a complaint with the CID, naming individuals who had accompanied the singer during his visit to Singapore before his untimely death.

Meanwhile, the Assam government has formally requested the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) to activate the Mutual Legal Assistance Treaty (MLAT) with Singapore to aid the investigation. However, opposition parties insist that the state leadership is attempting to shield powerful individuals connected to the case.

The demand for justice has struck a deep chord across Assam, with Zubeen’s fans, cultural groups, and civil society organisations urging investigators to ensure a fair, transparent, and thorough inquiry.

Zubeen Garg, often hailed as the “Heartthrob of Assam,” remains one of the most influential voices in the state’s cultural history, and his sudden passing has left a void that continues to fuel widespread grief and anger.
