Guwahati, Sept 4 – Assam’s pride, Gauhati University, has made it to the Top 10 State Public Universities of India in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) 2025 announced by the Ministry of Education.
According to the official list released today, Gauhati University secured the 9th position among the leading state universities, marking a significant achievement for higher education in Assam and the Northeast.
The top three spots were bagged by Jadavpur University, Kolkata, Anna University, Chennai, and Panjab University, Chandigarh. Other institutions in the top 10 include Andhra University, Kerala University, Cochin University of Science and Technology, Osmania University, University of Kashmir, and Bharathiar University.

Assam Education Minister Ranoj Pegu expressed his delight on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), writing:
"Proud moment! Gauhati University shines in the NIRF Rankings, securing a spot in the Top 10 State Universities of India."
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma was also tagged in the post, highlighting the importance of this achievement for the state’s education sector.
