Assam DGP Go Singh Provides Clarity on ASI Promotion Exam Amidst Media Speculation
Promoting Competence: Assam Police Maintains High Standards in Promotion Selection
In response to recent concerns circulating in electronic media about the promotion examination for Assistant Sub-Inspectors (ASI) within the Assam Police, Director General of Police (DGP) Go Singh has taken to Twitter to provide clear insights into the process. The tweets come as an attempt to address any misinformation and misconceptions surrounding the promotion exam.

The DGP highlighted several key points in his tweets:

1. The promotion examination for ASI positions was meticulously organized by the Board of Secondary Education, Assam (SEBA), an independent entity. This involved the creation of question papers, exam conduct, and the formulation of a merit list. The Assam Police Headquarters did not play any role in these processes.

2. The selection process resulted in the promotion of a total of 750 candidates. The breakdown of promotions by category is as follows:
    Unreserved category: 594 promotions
    ST (Plains): 72 promotions
    ST (Hills): 33 promotions
    SC: 51 promotions

3. The cut-off score for the General category was set at 67 marks (45%), with corresponding cut-offs for other categories. This was a conscious decision aimed at ensuring that promotions were granted to candidates who demonstrated a sufficient level of competence.

4. The DGP emphasized that the current leadership of the Assam Police is committed to promoting only the most competent individuals for leadership roles within the force. The decision-making process was undertaken with the best interests of the people of the state in mind.

5. Candidates who did not qualify for promotion in this round are encouraged to consider applying for future promotion opportunities in the upcoming year, which will include both remaining and fresh vacancies.

6. The DGP also urged media outlets to exercise caution and conduct thorough research before publishing articles that could potentially lead to disaffection among members of the uniformed service. He reminded media professionals to reach out to the official spokesperson or Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) for accurate information.

In conclusion, the DGP's tweets shed light on the careful and impartial approach taken in the promotion examination process for ASIs within the Assam Police. The clarification aims to dispel any doubts and foster a sense of transparency and trust in the promotion process.
