A tragic accident unfolded this evening at around 4:30 PM near KANCH Resort along the Diphu–Manja Road, where a Mahindra Bolero SUV collided head-on with a tempo used for water bottle delivery, resulting in multiple injuries. The incident was recorded by nearby CCTV cameras, providing clear footage of the crash and the vehicles involved.
CCTV Footage Shows Narrow Escape
In the video, the Bolero can be seen moving towards Manja while the water-laden tempo travels in the opposite direction toward Diphu. A local auto-passenger vehicle, also visible in the footage, narrowly avoids being caught in the crash, swerving away just in time to escape a possible three-vehicle accident.
Injuries Reported, Two Critical
The Bolero was carrying seven individuals—two men, three women, and two children. According to bystanders, the driver and a female passenger sustained serious injuries and were immediately rushed to Diphu Medical College & Hospital (DMCH). The children suffered minor bruises, while the remaining passengers received soft tissue injuries and were also taken for medical evaluation.
Preliminary Investigation Underway
The Karbi Anglong Traffic Police have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the accident. Preliminary analysis suggests possible causes could include reckless driving, loss of control, or mechanical issues. Both vehicles have been seized for further inspection, and officials are reviewing CCTV footage and collecting eyewitness statements. No arrests or formal charges have been announced as of now.
Locals Raise Safety Concerns
Diphu–Manja Road, a vital link between NH-29 and several rural zones, has been prone to accidents, especially during the rainy season. Residents complain about the lack of road dividers, proper signage, and speed regulation mechanisms, urging local authorities to address these infrastructural gaps. Reports indicate over a dozen accidents have occurred along this stretch in recent months.
