Assam CM Sarma Warns Suspected Illegal Immigrants: “No Peace Under My Government”
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma delivered a strong and uncompromising message on November 20, stating that suspected illegal immigrants would find “no peace” in the state as long as he remains in power.
Addressing the media, Sarma said, “As long as I am the chief minister, no Miya can rest in peace. That is final.” He added that only by removing him from the CM’s position could the community “attain peace.”
The term Miya is locally used to refer to Bengali-speaking Muslims in Assam.
Eviction Drive Concludes in Goalpara; Nagaon Next
The chief minister’s remarks came shortly after eviction operations were completed in Goalpara district. He confirmed that similar drives would be launched in Nagaon within the next two to three days.
Sarma stated that the eviction campaign against suspected illegal settlers would further intensify, especially in response to criticism directed at his administration.
“It Is My Job to Punish Them”: Sarma
Defending the government’s aggressive approach, Sarma said it was his responsibility to act against those he described as illegal residents.
He claimed such individuals would continue to “bear the pain and cry in front of the media,” asserting that they had “no other way out” under his government.
Warns Against Attending Opposition Events
Sarma also cautioned people attending opposition gatherings, stating that the same treatment would apply regardless of political alignment.
He pointed out that suspected illegal immigrants would find “no peace” whether they appeared at his programmes or those organised by other public figures like musician Zubeen Garg or Congress leaders Gaurav Gogoi and Rakibul Hussain.
Criticism Will Bring More Evictions, Says CM
Sending a direct message, Sarma added: “The more they give statements, the more the eviction.”
He suggested that staying silent might reduce confrontations with the government but emphasised that eviction operations would continue regardless of political noise.
