New Delhi: In a groundbreaking move set to reshape the country's transportation landscape, Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi is poised to kickstart a historic transformation on August 6th. Through a virtual inauguration ceremony at 11 AM, he will lay the foundation stone for the redevelopment of a staggering 508 railway stations located across India.
This momentous occasion comes as a culmination of Prime Minister Modi's unwavering commitment to enhancing public transportation infrastructure. Acknowledging that the railways serve as the preferred mode of travel for millions, he has underscored the need to elevate the passenger experience by offering world-class facilities at railway stations. With this vision in mind, the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme was introduced, aiming to rejuvenate 1309 railway stations across the nation.
As an integral part of this ambitious endeavor, the Prime Minister will initiate the redevelopment of 508 strategically selected railway stations. This monumental undertaking comes with a substantial investment of over Rs. 24,470 crores. The blueprint for these renovations includes the formulation of comprehensive Master Plans, transforming these stations into vibrant 'City Centres.' The goal is to seamlessly integrate both sides of each city, forging an interconnected urban fabric centered around the railway station.
Spanning a remarkable 27 states and union territories, the chosen 508 stations are geographically diverse, representing the length and breadth of the nation. Notable states in this initiative include Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan with 55 stations each, Bihar with 49, Maharashtra with 44, and West Bengal with 37. This widespread reach exemplifies the all-encompassing nature of the redevelopment project.
This visionary redevelopment effort will encompass a host of modern passenger amenities. The transformation includes meticulous planning to ensure optimized traffic circulation, seamless inter-modal integration, and informative signage to guide passengers effectively. In line with the endeavor to infuse local character, heritage, and architecture into the stations, the design of the station buildings will be an homage to the unique culture of each locality.
