Private Sector Boost: IMS-1 Satellite Bus Technology Transferred to Dhruva Space Pvt. Ltd.
NewSpace India Limited Facilitates Transfer of IMS-1 Satellite Bus Technology to Dhruva Space Pvt. Ltd.
In a significant move to enhance private sector participation in India's space sector, NewSpace India Limited (NSIL) has successfully transferred the IMS-1 Satellite Bus Technology, developed by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), to M/s Dhruva Space Pvt. Ltd. (Dhruva Space). The handover ceremony took place on August 9, 2023, at the NSIL headquarters.

The IMS-1 satellite bus, conceived and realized by the U R Rao Satellite Centre (URSC)/ISRO, is a versatile and cost-effective platform designed to enable easy access to space. This technology transfer marks a momentous step forward in India's ambition to empower private players within the space industry.

The IMS-1 satellite bus serves as a dedicated platform for diverse payloads, including Earth imaging, oceanic and atmospheric studies, microwave remote sensing, and space science missions. Its versatility ensures rapid deployment and turnaround times for satellite launches. Weighing approximately 100 kg, the bus can accommodate payloads of up to 30 kg. With solar arrays generating 330 W power and a 3-axis stabilization system, it boasts exceptional pointing accuracy of +/- 0.05 degrees.

Having played a pivotal role in past ISRO missions like IMS-1, Youthsat, and Microsat-2D, the IMS-1 technology holds immense promise for propelling India's space research endeavors.

The transfer of IMS-1 technology to Dhruva Space signifies a strategic step towards nurturing India's industrial growth in the space sector and fostering technological self-reliance. By providing Indian private enterprises with the capability to engage in space research and exploration, NSIL/ISRO is aligned with India's broader vision to expand its presence in the global space market.

Operating across the launch, space, and ground segments, Dhruva Space offers comprehensive space-engineering solutions. The company is deeply involved in the development of small satellites catering to commercial, governmental, and academic sectors.

This collaboration between NSIL and Dhruva Space demonstrates a pivotal shift in India's space landscape, further propelling the nation's strides towards becoming a key player in the global space industry.
