CM Sarma Highlights Assam's Competitive Power Tariffs Compared to Other States
Assam Chief Minister Highlights Lower Power Tariffs and Improved Load Shedding Situation
Guwahati, September 11, 2023: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma delivered a significant address during the Autumn Session of the State Legislative Assembly today, shedding light on the state's power tariff, load shedding situation, and future prospects.

In his address, CM Sarma proudly pointed out that Assam boasts lower power tariffs in comparison to other states such as Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, and Gujarat. He emphasized the state's commitment to providing affordable electricity to its residents.

Addressing a long-standing concern among Assam's citizens, CM Sarma stated, "The issue of regular load shedding in Assam has been effectively tackled. I am pleased to inform you that for the past two days, there has been no load shedding in the state." This development comes as a welcome relief to Assam's residents who have been grappling with power disruptions.

CM Sarma also shared exciting news regarding future investments in the state's power infrastructure. "As Assam is reliant on power generation from other states, we are actively exploring solutions to address this issue," he announced. "In the near future, the state will witness the establishment of a semiconductor plant with a whopping investment of 40,000 crores." This significant investment promises to bolster Assam's power generation capabilities, reducing its dependence on other regions.

Elaborating on the state's current power generation capacity, CM Sarma revealed that Assam generates a modest 400 MW of power at a cost of Rs 9 per unit. This cost-effective approach has translated into lower power tariffs for domestic consumers when compared to other states, ensuring that Assam's residents benefit from affordable electricity.

Additionally, CM Sarma applauded the successful implementation of smart meters across households in Assam. "The introduction of smart meters has led to a remarkable 60 percent reduction in power consumption across households," he proudly stated. "This is a positive sign, indicating that people are now more conscientious about their power usage."

In conclusion, Assam's Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma, provided a comprehensive update on the state's power situation. With lower power tariffs, improved load shedding management, and substantial investments on the horizon, Assam's energy landscape appears poised for a brighter and more sustainable future.

This news comes as a testament to Assam's commitment to providing its citizens with reliable and affordable access to electricity, further solidifying the state's position as a leading player in India's energy sector.
