Gauhati University, Assam - October 02, 2023: In a remarkable display of community spirit and dedication to cleanliness, Gauhati University, in collaboration with the National Service Scheme (NSS) Cell, organized the "Ek Tareekh Ek Ghanta" Swachhata program at Lankeshar area on the morning of 1st October, 2023.

Under the leadership of Dr. Ranjan Kr Kakati, Director of Students' Welfare at Gauhati University, a group of enthusiastic students and NSS volunteers embarked on a mission to clean up the Lankeshar Mandir area and the local market. This initiative, inspired by Prime Minister Sri Narendra Modi's call to action, aimed to encourage citizens across India to contribute to the cleanliness drive.

The "Ek Tareekh Ek Ghanta" program received support and recognition from both the University Grants Commission and the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India. This collaborative effort reflects the commitment of Gauhati University to promote cleanliness and hygiene in the local community.

Professor Pratap Jyoti Handique, the Vice-Chancellor of Gauhati University, emphasized the importance of maintaining cleanliness in one's surroundings for a healthy lifestyle. His words of encouragement resonated with the university family, motivating them to take responsibility for keeping their respective areas clean.

Dr. Rituparna Bora, NSS Programme Officer at Gauhati University, played a pivotal role in coordinating the event, which saw the participation of over 100 individuals. The collective effort of the volunteers demonstrated the power of community engagement in creating a cleaner and more hygienic environment.

Notably, this program was conducted as part of the "Swachhata Hi Sewa" fortnight cleanliness drive, which commenced on September 15th and concluded on October 2nd, 2023. This nationwide initiative aims to instill a sense of responsibility for cleanliness and sanitation among citizens.

Dr. Hemanta Kr Nath, the Registrar of Gauhati University, was also present during the event, further highlighting the university's commitment to fostering a clean and healthy environment for all.

As we celebrate the significance of cleanliness on this 2nd day of October, Gauhati University's "Ek Tareekh Ek Ghanta" program serves as a shining example of how collective action can lead to a cleaner and more sustainable future for our communities.
