Manipur: Seiminlun Gangte Held in Cross-Border Terror Scheme Faces Extended Custodial Sentence
Terror Conspiracy Suspect Placed in Judicial Custody by Patiala House Court
Delhi, October 12, 2023: Delhi's Patiala House court, on Wednesday, remanded Seiminlun Gangte to judicial custody, following his recent arrest in connection with a transnational conspiracy involving the leadership of terror outfits based in Myanmar and Bangladesh.

The accused, Seiminlun Gangte, had been taken into custody in Manipur and was subsequently brought to Delhi. He was presented before the NIA special court after the conclusion of the NIA's remand period, during which investigations had been ongoing.

Special NIA Judge Sanjay Garg ordered Seiminlun Gangte to be placed in judicial custody for a period of 30 days.

The allegations against Gangte and others are rooted in a conspiracy hatched by terror outfit leaders operating out of Myanmar and Bangladesh, aiming to wage war against India. The investigation agency has registered a case under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA) and other relevant laws.

According to the National Investigation Agency (NIA), Gangte's arrest is related to this transnational conspiracy, which is linked to ongoing ethnic unrest in the state of Manipur. The case was originally registered suo motu by the NIA on July 19, 2023, in New Delhi.

The investigation revealed that militant groups based in Myanmar and Bangladesh had conspired with certain militant leaders in India to incite violence with the intention of sowing discord between various ethnic groups and waging war against the Indian government. To fulfill this nefarious plan, the terror leadership had been providing funds for the procurement of arms, ammunition, and other forms of terrorist equipment. These resources were sourced from both across the border and from other terrorist groups active in the northeastern states of India, all with the aim of exacerbating the ongoing ethnic strife in Manipur.

The NIA has stated that further investigations in this case are ongoing, and it continues to gather evidence related to this transnational conspiracy. The case underscores the agency's commitment to uncovering and addressing threats to national security and maintaining peace and harmony within the country.
