Goalparab Congress MLA Aftab Uddin Mollah Granted Bail After Communal Remarks
In a recent development, Goalpara MLA Aftab Uddin Mollah is released on bail following his arrest for inflammatory remarks against Hindu priests.
Goalpara, Assam - November 09, 2023: In a recent turn of events, Goalpara MLA Aftab Uddin Mollah, who faced arrest on Tuesday night for making inflammatory remarks against Hindu priests and saints, has been released on bail following his appearance before the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) Court on November 9.

The legal development comes in the wake of the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) issuing a show cause notice to Mollah on November 8, in response to his derogatory comments targeting the Hindu community. The APCC has now taken the step of initiating legal proceedings against the MLA.

In an official circular, the Congress party made a decisive statement, asserting, "Regarding Congress MLA Aftab Uddin Mollah, legal proceedings have been initiated, and steps have been taken from the party disciplinary perspective."

This swift action by the Congress leadership underlines the party's commitment to upholding discipline and ensuring that its members exhibit respectful and inclusive behavior. The circular further directed that all Congress leaders and workers refrain from making statements to the media without prior permission.

The controversy surrounding Aftab Uddin Mollah's remarks ignited when APCC President Bhupen Borah issued a show-cause notice to the Goalpara MLA for delivering highly disparaging comments against Hindu priests, including the Namgharias of the state. As legal proceedings unfold, the incident sheds light on the party's unwavering stance on maintaining decorum within its ranks.
