DGP GP Singh Implements Measures to Curtail Unauthorized Items in Jail
Assam- 18 February, 24: In a recent development, authorities at an Assam jail made a startling discovery as they uncovered a cache of contraband items, including spy cameras, smartphones, and other electronic gadgets. The search operation was initiated following reports of illicit activities within the premises, prompting a rigorous crackdown on the detainees.
Among those charged under the stringent National Security Act (NSA) is separatist Amritpal Singh, whose involvement in the illegal activities has raised concerns among law enforcement agencies. The recovery of spy cameras, smartphones, keypad phones, pen drives, Bluetooth headphones, speakers, and TV remotes from the jail cell has shed light on the extent of unauthorized items circulating within the facility.
Assam DGP GP Singh took to social media platform X to provide insights into the operation, emphasizing the implementation of additional security measures to curb such activities. "On receipt of information about unauthorized activities taking place in the NSA cell, additional CCTV cameras were installed in the public area of the NSA Block," stated Singh.
The swift action taken by jail staff led to the recovery of various contraband items during the early morning search operation. These items, including smartphones with SIM cards, keypad phones, TV remotes with keyboards, spy-cam pens, pen drives, Bluetooth headphones and speakers, and smartwatches, were lawfully seized as evidence.
Investigations are currently underway to ascertain the source of these unauthorized articles and the methods employed for their introduction into the jail premises. Assam Police, in collaboration with other relevant authorities, is taking further lawful action to prevent the recurrence of such incidents in the future.
The discovery of contraband items within the jail highlights the challenges faced by law enforcement agencies in maintaining security and order within correctional facilities.
