A significant fire broke out in Goalpara late last night on May 3, resulting in the destruction of seven shops. The inferno, which engulfed the area of Chandariya in Barpahar within Goalpara town, caused extensive damage estimated at over Rs 20 lakh.

The calamity began when a local resident noticed billowing black smoke, swiftly followed by the ignition of flames. Despite immediate efforts by bystanders to extinguish the fire, their attempts proved futile. Subsequently, the assistance of the fire brigade was sought, eventually bringing the blaze under control. However, by the time the flames were quelled, seven shops had already succumbed to the fire's wrath.

The fire is suspected to have originated from a rickshaw parked near a shop in Barpahar, quickly spreading and consuming multiple establishments.
