Saphai Village, West Jaintia Hills, June 2: In a tragic incident, three children from a family lost their lives and nine others fell seriously ill after allegedly consuming wild mushrooms in Meghalaya’s West Jaintia Hills district.

Details of the Incident:
Deputy Commissioner BS Sohliya reported that the unfortunate event occurred in Saphai village. A total of twelve family members consumed the mushrooms, leading to the deaths of three children, while the remaining nine are currently receiving medical treatment in various hospitals.

Victims Identified:
The deceased children have been identified as Riwansaka Suchiang (8), Kitlang Duchiang (12), and Wansalan Suchiang (15). Authorities have initiated an investigation to uncover the exact cause of this tragic incident.

Immediate Response:
The local health officials are closely monitoring the situation and providing necessary medical assistance to the affected family members. The investigation aims to prevent such incidents in the future by educating the public on the dangers of consuming wild mushrooms.
