Guwahati, September 22:Gauhati University, in partnership with the Assam State AIDS Control Society, orchestrated a resounding call to action with the Red Run Mini Marathon. The event, which commenced at the early hour of 6 am, was a dynamic platform to instill awareness about HIV/AIDS prevention, as per an official press release.

The marathon's inauguration was marked by the presence of Prof. Partha Pratim Baruah, the Director of UGC (HRDC) at Gauhati University, and Dr. Ranjan Kr Kakati, ES Director of Students' Welfare. Prof. Baruah, in an impassioned address, underscored the gravity of HIV as a lethal virus and stressed the indispensable nature of preventative measures to halt its proliferation within our society. Dr. Kakati, echoing this sentiment, fervently implored the youth to shoulder the mantle of raising profound awareness, potentially heralding the complete eradication of HIV/AIDS from our midst.

In the fiercely contested boys' category, standouts emerged: Khadem Ali from Hamidabad College, Chandan Rabha from Jawaharlal Nehru College, Bedanta Boro from Bikali College, Sopiqul Islam, and Monirul Hoque from FA Ahmed College. In the girls' division, the limelight shone brightly on Bismita Choudhury from Nalbari College, Pampi Rabha from Jawaharlal Nehru College, Janmoni Kachari from Bikali College, Gayatri Das from Rangapara College, and Ritamoni Begum from Suren Das College. These exceptional athletes earned the coveted privilege of competing in the upcoming State-level marathon, scheduled for September 30 in Guwahati.

The top triumvirates in both categories were not only celebrated but also rewarded handsomely. Cash prizes of Rs 10,000, Rs 7,000, and Rs 5,000 were bestowed upon the first, second, and third-place finishers, respectively. In addition, these rising stars were conferred with prestigious trophies and certificates, all presented during a ceremony graced by Prof. Jagadish Sarma, the Secretary of University Classes at Gauhati University.

The Red Run Mini Marathon attracted an enthusiastic participation of nearly 130 students hailing from diverse colleges affiliated with Gauhati University. This event served as an impactful catalyst, igniting awareness about the HIV/AIDS challenge and, more importantly, galvanizing the younger generation to lead the charge in obliterating this looming health threat from our society.
