Guwahati, Assam - 29 November, 2023: In a significant development on November 29, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced that the ongoing development of 264 schools in the state, as part of the PM Shri School scheme, will play a pivotal role in advancing the objectives outlined in the New Education Policy (NEP).

Sarma expressed his enthusiasm for the initiative, stating that the selection of 264 schools for development is a landmark moment for Assam's education sector. He officially launched the scheme, underscoring its potential to significantly contribute to the state's educational landscape.

"With the blessings of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, we have commenced the launch of these schools which will be equipped with modern infrastructure," remarked Sarma, highlighting the collaborative effort between the state government and the central leadership to enhance educational facilities.

The Chief Minister emphasized that these schools will not only benefit from improved infrastructure but will also adopt a discovery-oriented teaching approach. Moreover, they are envisioned to serve as leadership models, guiding nearby schools and encapsulating the full spirit of the New Education Policy.

PM Shri School is a centrally sponsored scheme aimed at developing over 14,500 schools nationwide, and more than 20 lakh students are anticipated to directly benefit from its implementation. The initiative aligns with the broader vision of the New Education Policy, which seeks to bring about comprehensive reforms in the education sector.

The scheme is slated to unfold over a five-year period, starting from 2022. This extended timeframe allows for a strategic and phased implementation, ensuring that the impact of the initiative is sustainable and contributes meaningfully to the educational upliftment of the region.
