CM Sarma: Class 5, 8, and 10 Students to Receive ₹15,000 Scholarships
From Honor to Opportunity: Anundoram Borooah Award Redefined as a Gateway to Scholarly Success
Guwahati, Assam - 29 November, 2023: In a transformative announcement during the launch of the PM Shri Scheme, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma revealed a series of groundbreaking initiatives aimed at fostering competitiveness and enhancing the educational landscape in Assam.

Anundoram Borooah Award Transforms into Scholarship:
To instill a spirit of competitiveness among students, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced the conversion of the Anundoram Borooah Award into a scholarship starting from the next academic year. This scholarship will benefit 30,000 students from Class 5, 8, and 10, each receiving ₹15,000. The state government has allocated a substantial ₹45 crore to fund this ambitious scholarship program, signaling a significant investment in the educational future of Assam.

Focus on Stress-Free Education:
In a bid to alleviate the stress associated with Class 10 and 12 examinations, CM Sarma emphasized a shift in focus, placing additional efforts on Class 12 in alignment with the New Education Policy (NEP). By encouraging a stress-free environment for Class 10 students, the government aims to foster a more positive and conducive learning atmosphere.

Revolutionizing Scholarship Distribution:
Departing from the traditional approach, the Chief Minister announced a paradigm shift in scholarship distribution. Instead of limiting scholarships to the top 75% of Class 10 students, the government will now reward the first 10,000 students based on their performance in the matric examination. By treating the matric examination as a scholarship exam, the state aims to cultivate an environment of healthy competition among students.

Merger of SEBA and AHSEC:
Anticipating a more streamlined examination process, CM Sarma unveiled plans to merge the Board of Secondary Education, Assam (SEBA), and the Assam Higher Secondary Education Council (AHSEC) into a single body. This amalgamation aims to enhance the efficiency and coordination in overseeing the conduct of Higher Secondary (HS) examinations, simplifying administrative processes for both students and educational institutions.

Comprehensive Report Card for HS Exams:
In another progressive step, the Assam government plans to introduce a comprehensive report card for all institutions. This report card will track the performance of students appearing in the HS exams in a given year. This initiative aligns with the broader goal of ensuring accountability and transparency in the evaluation process, providing valuable insights for educators, students, and parents.

As Assam embarks on this ambitious journey of educational reform, the announcements made by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma stand as a testament to the state's commitment to nurturing a competitive, stress-free, and accountable education system. The integration of these initiatives under the PM Shri Scheme underscores Assam's dedication to providing quality education and empowering the future leaders of the state.
