Manipur Police Crackdown: Eight Arrested in Rescue Mission of Kidnapped College Student
Abductors Demand Rs 15 Lakhs Ransom - Police Uncover Arms Cache and Vehicles in Raid
Imphal, 9 December, 23 - A swift and determined operation by Manipur police resulted in the successful rescue of a kidnapped student from DM College of Science in Imphal. The rescue operation, carried out on Saturday morning at Yumnam Huidrom village, Wangoi police station, led to the arrest of eight alleged kidnappers and the recovery of arms and ammunition.

The student, identified as Laishram Chinglen Singh, 22 years old, was abducted in broad daylight from the New Boy’s Hostel of DM College on Friday afternoon. The kidnappers demanded a ransom of Rs 15 lakhs from the student's parents, threatening harm if their demands were not met, as revealed by SP Imphal West, Shivakanta Singh.

Upon receiving the abduction report, the police launched immediate search and rescue efforts, conducting raids in various locations across Imphal West district. In the early hours of Saturday, the police team successfully raided a house in Yumnam Huidrom Makha Leikai, rescuing the missing student from the captivity of the kidnappers.

The house, belonging to Asem Chaoba, 63 years old, became the focal point of the operation, with four suspected kidnappers found inside, and another four near two vehicles. The police apprehended the suspects promptly during the operation.

The suspected kidnappers have been identified as Khwairakpam Rajen Singh, Sukham James Singh, Moirangthem Amarjit Singh, Taorem Rohit Singh, Kayenpaibam Hemjit Singh, Sandam Romen Singh, Khagembam Dayananda Singh, and Sarungbam Umananda. Initial interrogation reveals their affiliation with the KCP (PWG) groups, operating under the leadership of Lamyanba Khuman, according to SP Shivakanta.

During the operation, the police recovered two rifles, one pistol, and a Swift car from the possession of the apprehended individuals. The successful rescue and apprehension mark a significant victory for law enforcement in Manipur, ensuring the safety of the abducted student and dismantling a potential criminal threat in the region.
