Armed Clashes Erupt in Kangpokpi District, Claiming Kuki-Zo Lives
Fears of unrest overshadowing upcoming electoral process
Tensions escalated in the Phailengmol region of Kangpokpi District as armed groups allegedly carried out coordinated attacks, resulting in the tragic deaths of two volunteers from the Kuki-Zo community.

This act of violence has sparked concern across the nation, especially among the Kuki-Zo people, leading to widespread condemnation from various quarters.

The incident occurred just ahead of India's upcoming general elections, raising fears of potential unrest that could impact the electoral process in the region.

According to reports, the armed groups allegedly desecrated the bodies of the fallen Kuki-Zo volunteers and fired upon them multiple times in a brutal display of violence.

The fresh outbreak of clashes, fueled by the aggression of these armed groups, has allegedly spread from the Peljang Haikot Kuki-Zo villages in Tengnoupal District to the Kangpokpi District.

The Phailengmol Defense Committee stated that the violence erupted around 8:30 am on Saturday morning when the villages of Kamu Saichang, Bongjang, and Monglham came under attack from multiple fronts in a coordinated assault by armed groups.

The Committee further claimed that the armed groups, some of whom were reportedly equipped with bulletproof vehicles and advanced weapons, including snipers, launched devastating attacks on the Kuki-Zo community in Bongjang old village, leading to intense exchanges of gunfire.

Another group of armed individuals allegedly attacked Monglham near Karong, sparking intense clashes across multiple fronts.

Eyewitnesses reported sighting armed individuals maneuvering through the hills, suggesting possible preparations for further attacks.

In response to the escalating violence, the Committee on Tribal Unity, Sadar Hills Kangpokpi, convened an emergency meeting to address the situation in the Phailengmol region.

As the situation remains tense, authorities are closely monitoring the developments and taking necessary measures to restore peace and ensure the safety of all citizens in the area.
