Mizoram: CID Arrests Three for Extortion and Drug Possession in Kolasib District

On March 25, 2024, a Special Operation Team of the CID (SB) apprehended three individuals in Saipum village, Kolasib district, for their involvement in extorting money from non-local traders traveling between NEEPCO/Tuirial Hydel Project and Mauchar village, Aizawl District. The arrested individuals are identified as Zarzova (47) from Mauchar, Lalropianga (38) from Manipur, and Lalmuankima (34) from Mauchar.

The arrests were made in connection with Case No. 5/24, dated March 23, 2024, under sections 397/395/341/34 IPC, registered at Sakawrdai Police Station.

Additionally, Zarzova was found in possession of 324 grams of heroin at 'Ralbawm ram', located approximately 8 kilometers from Bukpui in Kolasib district, on March 20, 2021. He was promptly arrested, and NDPS case No. A/O SC(K) No. 15/21 under section 21(c) was registered against him.

Although Zarzova was granted bail on health grounds on September 15, 2021, the Kolasib Fast Track Court delivered its judgment on April 8, 2024. As a result, Zarzova has been sentenced to 10 years imprisonment and fined Rs. 1,00,000.

The arrests and subsequent legal proceedings highlight the concerted efforts of law enforcement agencies to combat extortion and drug-related offenses in the region. It also serves as a reminder of the consequences individuals face for engaging in illicit activities that disrupt peace and security in the community.
