Guwahati – A social media user raised concerns over an ongoing blockade of commercial vehicles from Arunachal Pradesh, claiming that all such vehicles have been stopped and denied entry into Assam since yesterday. The user expressed frustration, stating, "Common people are at the mercy of these unions. This is not a sign of a civilised society." The post also called on Assam Police to intervene and restore law and order to ensure safe passage for commuters from Arunachal Pradesh. The user tagged key officials, including Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu, and Assam DGP G.P. Singh, requesting immediate action.
In response, Assam DGP G.P. Singh took to social media, directing Dhemaji Police to address the issue. He posted, "SP @DhemajiPolice, please look into the issue and get it addressed."
The blockade appears to be the result of retaliation from Assam-based transport unions, who claim that drivers from Assam were allegedly assaulted in Arunachal Pradesh. In protest, the unions are refusing to allow buses from Arunachal to enter Assam.
The incident has caused significant disruption to commuters and raised tensions between the two neighboring states. Many are now looking to the Assam Police and local authorities to resolve the issue swiftly and restore normalcy to the transport routes.
As the situation unfolds, both states’ governments are urged to ensure that the safety and well-being of the general public are prioritized, and peaceful resolutions are found to prevent further escalation.
