Himanta Biswa Sarma: No Tolerance for Hate Speech, NSA Imposed on Dhing MLA

Assam MLA Aminul Islam Detained Under NSA for Alleged Inflammatory Remarks

Dhing, Assam – May 15:
In a significant development, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced that Dhing MLA Aminul Islam has been taken into preventive custody under Section 3(2) of the National Security Act (NSA), 1980.

The action follows a report from the Superintendent of Police, Nagaon, highlighting Islam's alleged provocative speech during a Panchayat election campaign. A video clip circulating on social media reportedly shows the MLA making controversial remarks, including unsubstantiated claims linking the recent Pahalgam terror attack to a government conspiracy.

Acting on the recommendation, the Deputy Commissioner and District Magistrate of Nagaon ordered preventive detention under the NSA to avert potential threats to public order.

Chief Minister Sarma emphasized the state government’s zero-tolerance policy towards communal incitement and attempts to destabilize peace. “Anyone trying to disturb harmony or create divisions through misinformation or inflammatory statements will face strict legal consequences,” he said.

The incident has sparked intense political debate across Assam, as authorities remain vigilant about the impact of sensitive public speeches on law and order during the election season.
