Mizoram, August 09, 2023: Mizoram's School Education Minister, Lalchhandama Ralte, has shared heartening news about the education of children from refugee families in the state. More than 8,000 youngsters from Myanmar, Bangladesh, and conflict-affected Manipur are currently receiving education within Mizoram's schools.

Minister Ralte provided details of the student population: 6,366 are from Myanmar, 250 from Bangladesh, and 1,503 from Manipur. These students are receiving school uniforms, textbooks, and meals, just like local students.

Expressing the government's commitment to their education, Minister Ralte emphasized the unity among the Zo tribes and how it translates into the education sector. He stated, "Our government not only provides shelter but also education to those in need." Noteworthy accomplishments include the 2022 class 10 board exams, where 28 out of 31 refugee children passed, achieving an impressive 90.32% pass rate.

Minister Ralte highlighted a positive trend in government school enrollments over the past four years. Enrollments have risen from 1,15,005 in 2019-20 to 1,28,927 in the 2021-22 academic year, indicating improved education quality.

The curriculum is evolving to include Mizo language learning, reflecting a commitment to preserving culture and linguistic diversity. Mizoram has offered refuge to refugees from Myanmar's Kuki-Chin communities and the Chittagong Hill Tracts in Bangladesh. The state's support continues to aid those affected by conflicts and ethnic strife.
