SEBA and AHSEC's Fusion: ASSEB Becomes the Singular Force in Assam's Education
Introducing the Assam State School Education Board (ASSEB)
Guwahati, Assam – 16 November, 2023:
In a significant move aimed at streamlining the education system, the Assam government revealed its decision to merge the state boards for Class 10 and 12 into a single, unified entity. The announcement came during a state cabinet session led by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, where the formal adoption of the resolution took place.

As outlined in a cabinet communique shared by Chief Minister Sarma, the consolidation will entail merging the Board of Secondary Education, Assam (SEBA), responsible for overseeing Class 10 board examinations, and the Assam Higher Secondary Education Council (AHSEC), which manages Class 12 tests. The outcome of this merger is the establishment of a new entity named the Assam State School Education Board (ASSEB).

The primary objective behind this decision, as articulated in the communique, is to "develop, regulate, and supervise the standards and quality of school education." By combining these longstanding educational bodies, the Assam government aims to create a more cohesive and efficient framework for educational governance.

This move comes approximately eight months after the occurrence of question paper leaks during the Class 10 board examinations, prompting a need for comprehensive reforms in the existing system. The decision to merge SEBA and AHSEC reflects the government's commitment to enhancing the overall quality and integrity of the state's school education.

In summary, the Assam State School Education Board (ASSEB) is set to play a pivotal role in shaping the educational landscape of the state, embodying the government's dedication to fostering excellence and accountability in school education.
