Assam Rifles Rescue Abducted Civilians in Joint Operation.
ASSAM, 18 December 2023: Troopers from Assam Rifles recently rescued two civilians who were abducted by heavily armed cadres affiliated with the Myanmar-based NSCN-K (Angi Mai) group. The incident took place on the night of December 15 in Yannyu village, Mon district, Nagaland.

A swift response was initiated with a joint search and rescue operation conducted by Assam Rifles in collaboration with Nagaland Police. The operation intercepted the abductors in a jungle near Wetting Village, leading to a brief but intense firefight. The armed cadres were compelled to flee, abandoning the two kidnapped individuals.

The successful operation also resulted in the discovery of a significant cache of arms, ammunition, and warlike stores, including an M-16 rifle and three pistols. Notably, a civilian guide assisting the cadres was apprehended during the mission.

The captured individual, along with the recovered arms and ammunition, was handed over to the Nagaland Police for further action.

This comes shortly after another successful rescue mission on December 15, where Assam Rifles, in collaboration with Manipur Police, rescued two abducted laborers from a construction site in Tamenglong district, as stated in an official release.
