Police Investigation Underway as Case Registered at Diphu Police Station
Diphu, Assam- 25 February, 24: In response to specific information about illegal weapons dealings in Karbi Anglong District, a targeted operation was carried out on Saturday evening, February 24, 2024, under the supervision of Nayan Moni Barman, ASP (Crime), and Inspector JS Khobung, OC Diphu PS, along with their team. The operation also included personnel from SDPO Maibang, CRPF Birla, and CDO.
During the operation, three individuals were apprehended: Nijesh Langthasa (30 yrs), Manik Haflongbar, and Kumud @ Rothai Phonglo. They confessed to hiding arms inside a bamboo grove wrapped in polythenes within the premises of Nijesh Langthasa's residence at No 1 Dilangi, Nailalong under Diphu PS.
The SP, Karbi Anglong, Sanjiv Kumar Saikia, revealed that the arrests were made following information about a group intending to form an armed organization.
During the operation, a joint effort between Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao police, AK-47 rifles along with live ammunition, three .32 pistols with magazines, and three live hand grenades were seized. The arrested individuals are currently undergoing interrogation, and an FIR has been lodged against them at Diphu police station.
The three arrested individuals are facing charges under various sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Arms Act, 1959. A case has been registered at Diphu PS, and investigations are underway, as confirmed by police sources.
