22 Assam Workers Missing After Vehicle Plunges Into Gorge; Indian Army Leads High-Risk Rescue

Indian Army Launches Major Search & Rescue Operation in Chaglagam After Vehicle With 22 Workers Falls Into Gorge

The Indian Army has initiated a large-scale Search and Rescue (SAR) mission in the higher reaches of Chaglagam in Arunachal Pradesh after a civilian vehicle carrying 22 workers from Tinsukia plunged into a deep gorge near KM 40. The Army confirmed the operation through an official post on X, highlighting the urgency and scale of the rescue efforts.

Multiple Agencies Mobilised for High-Risk Rescue Mission

According to the Army, several rescue columns have been deployed to the accident site, supported by specialised medical teams. Personnel from the police, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), and General Reserve Engineer Force (GREF) are actively participating in the coordinated operation alongside civil authorities.

Challenging Terrain Slows Progress, But Efforts Intensify

The accident site falls within one of the most difficult terrains of Arunachal Pradesh, marked by steep cliffs, dense forests, and unpredictable weather. Despite these harsh conditions, rescue teams are conducting intensive search operations to locate and recover all individuals who were travelling in the ill-fated vehicle.

Officials reported that the combination of deep gorges, loose rocks, and limited accessibility has made the mission extremely challenging, but the teams remain committed to ensuring the safety and recovery of the workers.

Army Reaffirms Commitment to Civil Support

The Indian Army stated that all possible resources are being mobilised and the operation will continue until every missing person is accounted for. The incident has triggered widespread concern across the Northeast, particularly in Assam and Arunachal Pradesh, as families await updates on the workers.

The rescue mission underscores the Army's continued support to civilian administration in emergency response, especially in remote and high-risk areas.
