Assam Education Minister Assures Students of Full Marks for Out-of-Syllabus Questions in HSLC Mathematics Paper
Students Express Frustration Amidst Claims of Unfamiliar Question Format
Guwahati, 2 March, 24: Assam's Education Minister, Ranoj Pegu, has declared that students encountering out-of-syllabus questions in the Mathematics paper of the High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC) examination 2024 will be awarded full marks. Pegu's statement comes in response to complaints from students regarding the presence of such questions during the exam.

During a press conference addressing the issue, Ranoj Pegu stated, "We are thoroughly investigating the matter. The Board of Secondary Education Assam (SEBA) has been instructed to grant marks for any out-of-syllabus questions."

The concerns raised by students primarily center around questions numbered 46 and 61 in the Mathematics paper, which were perceived as deviating from the usual format. Interestingly, these questions, worth 2 and 4 marks respectively, were not entirely beyond the prescribed syllabus. Rather, they introduced a novel approach, prompting students to delve deeper into conceptual understanding rather than rote memorization.

Students have expressed concerns regarding the apparent lack of questions from the SEBA syllabus, leading to the inclusion of questions outside the syllabus. Pegu acknowledged these concerns and emphasized the need for a change in the pattern of questions. However, he clarified that the question paper's difficulty level had not been increased, but rather, questions were presented in a new format.

"We have revised the question pattern to better prepare students for competitive exams conducted nationwide, including those by the Railway Recruitment Board (RRB) and Staff Selection Commission (SSC)," Pegu highlighted.

The assurance from the Education Minister seeks to address the apprehensions of students and ensure fairness in the evaluation process. Further updates on the investigation and any subsequent actions by SEBA are awaited.
