New Delhi, 1 March, 24: In a landmark development for Assam's economic landscape, the state is set to welcome its largest-ever private investment – a whopping ₹27,000 crore semiconductor plant by the Tata Group. The announcement was made by Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, who expressed immense gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for facilitating the monumental investment, which promises to reshape the region's industrial trajectory.

The semiconductor plant, approved by the Cabinet on 29th February 2024, represents a significant milestone for Assam's ambitions in the semiconductor industry. With a capacity to produce 48 million semiconductor units per day, the plant is poised to cater to diverse sectors including automotive, electric vehicles, consumer electronics, telecom, and mobile phones. Equipped with indigenous advanced semiconductor packaging technologies such as flip chip and ISIP (integrated system in package), the facility promises to bolster India's semiconductor capabilities and contribute to the country's vision of self-reliance in semiconductor manufacturing.
