High-Level Japanese Delegation Arrives in Assam to Strengthen Bilateral Ties

Japanese Parliamentary Delegation Begins Three-Day Visit to Assam to Boost Strategic Ties and Investment Prospects

Guwahati, May 4: A high-level Japanese delegation, led by the Speaker of the House of Representatives of Japan, Nukaga Fukushiro, arrived in Guwahati on the evening of May 3 for a significant three-day visit to Assam, aiming to strengthen bilateral ties and explore new avenues for cooperation in the North Eastern region.

Welcoming the delegation, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma expressed optimism that the visit would open doors for enhanced collaboration between Japanese companies and Assam, as well as the broader North East. He described the visit as a "testament to the deepening ties between Assam and Japan."

The delegation was formally received at the airport by Assam Legislative Assembly Speaker Biswajit Daimary, along with Sports and Youth Welfare Minister Nandita Gorlosa and other senior state officials.

Taking to social media platform X, the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) posted: “H.E. Nukaga Fukushiro, Hon’ble Speaker of the House of Representatives of Japan, arrived in Assam today leading a high-level delegation for a three-day visit.”

During their interaction at the CM's office, Sarma reiterated Assam's commitment to strengthening strategic and economic ties with Japan. He highlighted the importance of this visit in the context of Advantage Assam 2.0, an initiative to boost investment and development in the state.

Sarma also recalled his own visit to Japan in January, where he had invited Fukushiro to Assam and discussed expanding employment opportunities for Assamese youth in Japan. He informed the delegation about the upcoming Japanese Language and Testing Centre to be established at the ASEAN One Technical Centre in Amingaon, Kamrup district.

Chief Secretary Ravi Kota delivered a detailed presentation on Assam’s business ecosystem, showcasing investment potential in key sectors including industry, tourism, skill development, employment generation, health, and family welfare.

The Japanese team attended a cultural evening organized in their honour, which was also graced by Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya and other dignitaries.

As part of their itinerary, the 45-member delegation is scheduled to visit the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati and the Tata Semiconductor and Testing Facility in Jagiroad on Sunday. They will also inspect ongoing Japan-assisted development projects before concluding their visit on Monday.

The Japanese visit marks a crucial step towards enhancing Assam's global partnerships and reinforcing the state's role as a gateway to Southeast Asia.
