The Assam government has made key appointments in the police department, with IPS officer Anand Mishra taking charge as the new Superintendent of Police (SP) for North Lakhimpur, while Navneet Mahanta has been appointed as the new SP for Nagaon.
The reshuffling of police personnel follows the recent mysterious death of Nagaon SI Junmoni Rabha. In another development, Leena Doley has been appointed as the SP for Hailakandi.
Amid the ongoing investigation into Junmoni Rabha's case, Lakhimpur Additional SP Runa Neog has been summoned by the Assam Police to appear before the investigative team at the police headquarters. This comes after an alleged informant of the deceased SI claimed that SP Runa Neog had threatened her over the phone for her involvement in exposing counterfeit gold traders in Bangalmora.
Furthermore, SPs Leena Doley and Bedanta Madhab Rajkhowa of Nagaon and Lakhimpur respectively have been transferred in connection with the Junmoni Rabha case.
Addressing a press conference on May 20, Assam Director General of Police GP Singh announced that the investigation into Junmoni Rabha's death has been handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) due to the various aspects involved in the case.
