Tinsukia, December 2, 2023:
In a significant move towards fostering inclusivity and promoting public school education, Education Minister Ranoj Pegu announced that under Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma's leadership, the Assam Cabinet has approved a 5% reservation in B.Tech and B.E. courses in Government Engineering Colleges of Assam.

The reservation is specifically designed for students who completed their education from Class VII to X in Government schools under SEBA (Board of Secondary Education, Assam) and Class XI to XII in State Government schools, colleges, and Provincialized colleges under AHSEC (Assam Higher Secondary Education Council).

Unlike traditional additional quotas, this reservation will be seamlessly integrated within existing categories, ensuring a fair distribution among SC/ST/OBC/MOBC (Non Creamy Layer)/EWS, and General category students based on eligibility.

The initiative not only aims to provide equal opportunities but also serves as an encouraging factor for students to opt for Government schools. By bridging the gap between educational institutions, the Assam Government is actively promoting a more accessible and balanced educational landscape.

This strategic move aligns with the state's commitment to holistic education and innovation, positioning Assam as a leader in implementing progressive and inclusive policies. The newly introduced reservation policy sets a precedent for other regions, fostering a more equitable and dynamic educational environment nationwide.
