Prime accused is a doctor who allegedly killed the victim over a romantic rivalry
Agartala, June 11, 2025 — In a chilling crime that has left the state stunned, Tripura Police have arrested six individuals, including a doctor and his parents, in connection with the murder of a 24-year-old youth, whose body was found stuffed inside a refrigerator in Gandacherra, under the Dhalai district.
Crime Linked to Love Triangle, Say Police
The incident, which took place on the night of June 8 in Agartala, involved the murder of Sariful Islam, an electrician employed under the Agartala Smart City Project. According to officials, the motive behind the brutal killing was a love triangle involving the victim and the cousin of the alleged mastermind.
Planned Murder by a Doctor and His Accomplices
Addressing the media, West Tripura District Superintendent of Police (SP) Kiran Kumar revealed that Dr. Dibakar Saha (29)—a medical graduate from Bangladesh—lured Sariful to his residence in the Indranagar area under the guise of giving him a gift.
“When Sariful reached Dibakar's home, he found three others waiting—Animesh Yadav (21), Nabanit Das (25), and Jaydeep Das (20). Our preliminary investigation suggests the murder was premeditated,” said SP Kumar.
The police disclosed that Dibakar was infatuated with the same woman Sariful was dating, his cousin. Unable to cope with the rejection and driven by jealousy, Dibakar allegedly conspired to kill Sariful.
Shocking Disposal Attempt: Body Hidden in Refrigerator
After strangling Sariful to death, the accused placed his body in a trolley bag and later transferred it to another house. The following day, Dibakar’s parents, Dipak Saha (52) and Debika Saha, reportedly traveled from Gandacherra to Agartala with a vehicle.
In a shocking twist, the couple allegedly helped store the body in a refrigerator before transporting it nearly 150 km to Gandacherra, in a desperate attempt to dispose of the evidence without raising suspicion.

The body was eventually recovered by police from Gandacherra following leads gathered during the investigation. A case has been registered under relevant sections of murder and criminal conspiracy.
“The investigation is still in progress, and further forensic and digital evidence is being examined. We will ensure justice is delivered,” added SP Kiran Kumar.

The gruesome nature of the crime has sparked outrage in both Agartala and Gandacherra, with many demanding fast-track trial and strict punishment for the perpetrators. Locals are also questioning how educated individuals, including a medical graduate, could be involved in such a horrifying act.
