GUWAHATI: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has clarified that the Assam Police will not be required to travel to Singapore as part of the ongoing investigation into the death of Zubeen Garg, the iconic Assamese singer and actor who passed away recently in the island nation.

Speaking to reporters in Guwahati, the Chief Minister explained that international law does not allow one country’s police to directly conduct investigations on the soil of another nation. He emphasized that the probe is being carried out in close coordination with Singapore authorities through official diplomatic and legal channels.

“Our investigation is not required to go to Singapore because whatever evidence the Singapore Police will collect, they will share with us. Our request has already been sent. No foreign country allows another country’s police to investigate; that is not the law,” Sarma said.

According to Sarma, communication between the Government of India and Singapore is already underway to ensure smooth exchange of evidence and reports. The Chief Minister assured that the Singapore Police will provide all relevant findings, including autopsy reports, medical records, and witness statements, to the Indian authorities.

He also appealed to the people of Assam to remain patient and trust the ongoing process. “We understand the emotions of Zubeen Garg’s fans and the people of Assam. The government is fully committed to uncovering the truth, and every step will be taken in accordance with international law,” he said.

Zubeen Garg, one of the most celebrated voices of the Northeast, passed away in Singapore under circumstances that have drawn widespread attention. His death has left fans across Assam and beyond mourning and demanding a fair and transparent probe.
