CID to Probe Details, Govt Warns Against Rumors on Zubeen Garg’s Death
Guwahati, September 22, 2025: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday confirmed that the fresh post-mortem examination of legendary singer Zubeen Garg will be conducted at Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) at 7:30 AM on Tuesday. The process will be completed before the cremation ceremony, ensuring fans and admirers get the opportunity to pay their last respects to the celebrated artist.
The Chief Minister urged people with credible information about the singer’s untimely death to share details directly with the CID, while cautioning against spreading rumors or unverified claims on social media. “Strict action will be taken against those spreading baseless speculation,” Sarma said.
Traffic and Security Measures
To facilitate smooth arrangements, the government has decided to suspend vehicular movement across the city from Monday until 4 PM on Tuesday. Citizens will, however, be allowed to gather along both sides of the main roads to bid farewell to the music icon.
Dignitaries to Attend
Union Minister Kiren Rijiju will represent Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the state funeral. Other notable attendees include the Speaker of the Assam Legislative Assembly, the Leader of Opposition, representatives of the Assam Sahitya Sabha, the All Assam Students’ Union (AASU), Zubeen Garg’s close friends, and former Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal.
Following the cremation, the singer’s ashes will be handed over to his family.
Warning Against Unrest
The Chief Minister also issued a strict warning that any attempt to force shop closures or disturb public order in Zubeen Garg’s name after 2 PM on Tuesday will invite strong legal consequences. Authorities confirmed that CCTV footage of individuals involved in recent disturbances, including an incident at a pharmacy on Zoo Road, has been collected and culprits will be arrested.
A Peaceful Farewell
The government emphasized that these measures aim to ensure a dignified and peaceful farewell for Assam’s most beloved music icon, whose sudden demise has left millions across the Northeast and beyond in grief.
