Zubeen Garg Passes Away in Scuba Diving Accident in Singapore
Assam, Sept 19: Renowned Bollywood and Assamese singer Zubeen Garg tragically passed away in Singapore following a scuba diving mishap. The 52-year-old artist, who was in the island nation to participate in the North East India Festival, reportedly faced severe breathing difficulties while underwater.
According to festival officials, Garg was quickly rescued and administered CPR before being rushed to Singapore General Hospital. Despite doctors’ efforts, he was declared dead in the ICU around 2:30 pm IST.
Confirming the heartbreaking news, Anuj Kumar Boruah, a representative of the North East India Festival, said:
“It is with profound grief that we announce the passing of Zubeen Garg. During a scuba diving session, he encountered breathing problems. Immediate CPR was given, and he was shifted to the hospital, but unfortunately, he could not be revived.”

Assam Health and Family Welfare Minister Ashok Singhal expressed his condolences on social media platform X, describing the loss as irreparable.

He was the pride of our state and the nation, whose songs reflected our culture, emotions, and identity. His passing leaves a void that can never be filled.
